University Wanderers 1 - Brooklyn Northern  4

photo.jpg_176_132_1_70_1_50_50.jpgA convincing start to the season for Brooklyn Northern, defeating University Wanderers 4 - 1.

Brooklyn started strongly, and were two goals to the good after the first twenty minutes. The first came from a powerful long range drive from imperious central-midfielder Carter. The second was a well-worked counter-attack finished off with a rasping shot from Clyne, giving the keeper no chance. University Wanderers responded with a sustained period of possession, and were rewareded when a speculative attempt found its way into the net shortly before half-time.

photo3.jpg_176_132_1_70_1_50_50.jpgBrooklyn started the second half in determined fashion, pushing for a third goal to close out the game, but University Wanderers proved equal to the task for much of the second-half.  Despite some heart-stopping moments, with Evans clearing off the line, Brooklyn's defence couldn't be breached, and the high-defensive line of University Wanderers left gaps at the back. Those gaps were soon exploited with several narrow misses, then Carter adding his second, and Gleisner rifling in a stunning final goal, completing the 4-1 route.
