BNU Womens B Vs Wainuiomata - 3 all drawAfter a lovely summery weekend the clouds came over the Wainuiomata pitch. Being the last game of the season BNU was amped for a win. Going out strong the first half showed domination and control from BNU with plenty of shots on goal. The growing team dynamics continued with lots of passing and calling. Jules and Aphra got plenty of running and shooting practise. But it was Wainui who scored first when their star player fondly referred to as Little Miss Slide tackle outran the BNU defence. BNU took the wake up call and responded quickly with two goals in quick succession from Jo and then Jules. Little Miss Slide Tackle was on form being rough and sneaky, but she picked the wrong defender this weekend!! She didn't like the fact she was struggling to get round our Player of the Day Anita so thought it was appropriate to call her names. Anita raised this with the ref who was not prepared to do anything. However revenge is sweet and it came in the form of a face plant of epic proportions!! Completely unintentional but satisfying all the same. Anita happened to be running with her and in an attempt to kick the ball away tripped her accidentally. They did get a penalty but didn't capitalise and with tempers flaring Little Miss Slide Tackle retired to the bench. Then it was half time with the score 2-1 to us. After half time Wainui came back strong scoring 2 goals and stealing the lead from under our noses with two strong runs sneaking past the defenders. Trying to stay composed BNU managed to control the ball and keep taking opportunities but not able to come away with the points. Aphra had some great runs escaping Wainui defence but timing the strike slightly late as defenders boxed her in. Wendy also had some great shots from the wings and provided crucial plays in setting up and making the cross. Jo did some great running as usual in mid field and her aggression and determination was to be admired winning all 50/50 ball within a 20 metre radius. In the final 10 minutes I managed to sneak the equaliser after being moved up front with a slight tap in the right direction after a great pass into space just as the keeper was coming out. Alas there were no further goals to gain the lead but some hard fought action trying. Toni had some great saves and strong kicks. Anna also had a strong boot kicking some great goal kicks. All in all it was a great team effort and again the score not a true reflection of the game with the BNU curse of converting shots on goal plaguing us. Oh well :( what should of been a win was still well played and pride can be taken from the continuing team effort and improved team play. Training must be paying off - Thanks Daniel!!
