BNU16 2 v Wellington Utd Legends 0

St John to the rescue!

As dusk approached on MacAlister 2, two teams were still seen battling it out in an excellent game that would not have not looked out of place a dozen grades higher. Sadly, one Legends player missed the concluding 30 minutes of the encounter, after suffering a nasty shoulder dislocation. We agreed to leave him prone on the field of play, covered him with trackies and dialed 111.

St John to the rescue!

St John to the rescue! The match was full of end to end play, the Legends preferring the patient build-up approach, before setting their strikers free into the channels. Brooklyn adopted their more direct style, but clear-cut chances were hard to come by and predicting the final outcome was looking more difficult than that of an England v Netherlands Twenty20 cricket match.

However, BNU possess striker who is now reaching notoriety of Biblical proportions, with a total of 14 goals from 9 games. His two latest strikes, one in each half, killed off one of the strongest outfits in the division, the second at a time when the Legends were throwing everything at BNU in search of an equaliser.

Against a team who had previously scored an impressive 41 goals, a special mention for all of the defensive back line with their efforts in helping to secure a clean sheet. Despite the 30 minute delay, we managed to complete the game without the need for any further divine intervention.

MOM goes to the Ginger Ninja, JP, for his 90 minutes of tenacity and skill, in a midfield that often looked in danger of being overrun.

β€œIt's the team that matters. Where would The Beatles be without Ringo? If John got Yoko to play drums the history of music would be completely different.” – David Brent
